BLURB:
Artist Liz Climo has created a charmingly quirky animal kingdom, a place where grizzly bears, porcupines, rabbits, and anteaters all grapple with everyday life with wit and humor. Through her comics, we make unexpected yet wise discoveries: how armadillos make fast-and-easy Halloween costumes, how dinosaurs deal with their inquisitive children, or the ingenious ways that animal friends can work together to ensure their juice is always freshly squeezed.
Liz Climo’s panels are humorous, entertaining, perfectly-illustrated, sweet, endearing and most importantly, unique.
The moment I saw this book I knew I would love it. It is not a feeling I get with every book I end up enjoying – because, really, my instinct is still growing – but it is a feeling that often comes with books that end up on my list of favourites.
I adore, adore, adore this little animal kingdom the author created. The animals are represented in a way that makes us want to move closer to them, not step away. By the end of the book, I wanted to become their friend and be part of their quirky world.
So much love.
But, but, but, but: I did not like the one comment the lion made when his friend got a *haircut*, saying he ‘‘look[ed] like a girl’’. I understood the reference, and I’m sure the author didn’t mean anything by it, but I still think she should have thought twice before including that specific panel.
PS. Not all panels are children-friendly, since some of the animals use words like ”shit” and expressions like ”son of a bitch”. Yeah, thought I’d warn you.
