REVIEW:

Gene Luen Yang does something so different with this graphic novel… and it works. It absolutely, amazingly works.

At first I thought this would be a memoir, but it’s not quite that. Then I thought it would shift its focus on one particular person (not the author) and follow them until the end, but it’s not that either. Continue reading

REVIEW:

This graphic novel is pretty close to perfect. Scratch that – It IS perfect.

We meet three best friends – Abby, Brit and Christine – who welcome the new girl – Sasha – into their group and develop a beautiful and strong friendship. These girls help each other and discuss topics deemed personal, more specifically menstruation, which is considered ‘‘taboo’’ in some places. Continue reading

REVIEW:

This is a hard one to review. I received an advance copy of this book, and while the final copy is supposed to be in full colour, there was no colour in my copy and half of the book had unfinished illustrations. So my experience with the advance copy and your experience with the finished copy will be undoubtedly different. Continue reading

Publisher: First Second Books

Genres & Themes: Young Adult, Graphic Novel, LGBTQIA+, Sexual Assault, Magic Realism, Death

REVIEW:

This is an odd graphic novel.

It’s one of those stories you read because they’re fast-paced, mysterious and atmospheric, but you have no actual idea what the hell you’re reading about and what the point of everything is. It takes a while to even understand the link between the two main characters, let alone the plot itself. Continue reading

REVIEW:

Woah. This book feels like a GAME-CHANGER. And maybe it is, who knows, I sure don’t know many graphic novels mainly about pregnancy so this may just be one of the firsts of its kind. And maybe there will be more in the future, only time will tell. Wouldn’t that be amazing, though? Continue reading

REVIEW:

I should have known from the very beginning that this would be a VERY dramatic book, not a romantic comedy like I expected. Rom-com, really? That could not be farther from reality. After all, the cover itself is overly dramatic. Mads’s friend is whispering who-knows-what in her ear while she is blushing and holding a CROSS. Continue reading

REVIEW:

I just want everyone on this planet to read this lovely queer graphic novel. Is that too much to ask?

I have no idea though why this book was published in FEBRUARY because it is 100% a summer read and for a second there, after finishing it, I wondered if the snow outside had perhaps melted.

AS IF. Continue reading
