REVIEW:

You’ve probably read this story before. A daughter of immigrant parents wants to become something other than a doctor or anything else super stable financially, which is what her parents wish for her, and she denies herself happiness to make THEM happy.

Normally, I would look at everything else that makes this story original, despite its overdone storyline, but this just isn’t an original story. Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy it and I do recommend it as a fairly quick and interesting read but if you’re looking for CREATIVE, you need to look elsewhere.

So Nira Ghani wants to be a musician. Her parents don’t want to contribute towards anything other than school, so she needs to find a job to pay for clothes and musical instruments, but that’s also out of the question for her parents. Her best friend has made a new friend and someone else has their eye on her crush. Basically, her life sucks right now.

But Nira has a fire inside of her that just won’t quit. Won’t let her quit either. I guess one thing that does make this story different from others with a similar plot is that Nira is VERY vocal about her wants and needs. She will start up fights with her family members if it means she gets to say the things that weigh on her heart. She doesn’t hold it in much but that doesn’t mean she isn’t scared. The things that matter the most to her, those things are harder for her to discuss, but she needs to learn to become the leader of her own life.

Once again, enjoyable but not re-reading material.
