REVIEW:

This is an empowering YA coming-of-age story about four different close female friends who are each dealing with their own independent life situations while still supporting one another to the best of their abilities. If you’ve watched The Bold Type – a feminist TV series created by this author – you know exactly what I’m talking about and you will love this to bits.

Ava is digging into her family history. CJ is trying to improve her grades to be accepted to her first choice university. Jordan is investigating the planned destruction of a park that is of importance to her community. Martha is dealing with financial issues linked to her education. None of them have it easy. All of them must overcome difficulties. Thank goodness they have each other.

It’s one of those stories that you read because the characters face obstacles that are very relatable, and even if you, yourself, have never had to deal with anything like that before, you can feel how much the four girls are affected by them and want to see them succeed. At least, I did. And I was touched by each girl’s willingness to be there for one another. Just like in Sutton, Jane and Cat’s case, this is a rare friendship that is constantly being strengthened because the girls care.

I am very intrigued by the author’s plan to write a second book. I have no idea what the story will be—how things will unfold—but I know I will love seeing Ava, CJ, Jordan and Martha again.
