REVIEW:
This is the book I didn’t know I needed in my life.
Duncan is on FIRE. She is vibrant, motivated, determined, and I could really feel how content she was with her own life through her written words. She is passionate about health. Well, duh, she’s a personal trainer. But beyond that, she’s a trainer who in her lifetime has been overweight, average weight and skinny so she’s speaking with empathy in addition to knowledge.
Even if your health goal is not to lose weight but just to eat better, you can still benefit from this book. It’s more than a book—it’s a motivational tool. It’s like a friend who encourages you every step of the way and then throws you a parade for having accomplished the smallest feat. Victory! It’s hard not to want to keep reading it because Duncan’s words will make you feel good, capable and accepted.
She follows a habit-based approach to weight loss. The trick is not to try a new diet with only vegetables for a week or any other nonsense thing like that. She wants you to try to alter some of your everyday habits to incorporate healthier ones. It’s pretty straight forward, but it’s still a challenging thing to do, and Duncan knows this, so she is completely in favour of you taking your time to fully embark on this journey. Take it slow, but make progress along the way, until you’ve completely become comfortable with your new habits and lifestyle.
I don’t remember ever reading a book about the topic of weight loss, so I don’t know what kind of contribution this one is making and how it differs from other books about this subject, but it is a very entertaining and meaningful read.
