REVIEW:

I like when stories first published online become traditionally published because their hype is contagious to me. I become really curious about them and want to find out what makes them special. Cupid’s Match is the kind of YA paranormal romance that you’ve read before… but with a twist. I’m okay with that, since I don’t think the wheel always needs reinventing and as long as a story is catching my interest I am a happy reader.

This story caught my interest from the start. I like when I know as much as the main character does because then I don’t have to wait for them to catch up and I can be surprised at the same time as they are. This book is full of surprises and some shocking revelations that I could not have predicted. I also found the whole concept of having real cupids match people in the world pretty original and exciting. Also exciting were the arrows with different powers that affected their targets lightly or lethally.

Lila Black is a typical YA paranormal heroine: she’s strong-headed and sceptical (in the beginning) but once she becomes convinced she lives in a world with fantasy stuff she becomes determined and accepts, to some extent, the role she has to play. She is defiant at times, which is never smart since a human is weak compared to a mythological creature, but I found her entertaining and not too frustrating. Her love interest is a rather clichéd paranormal immortal guy but I did enjoy the back-and-forth between them and the hot/sweet moments they shared.

This book will appeal to a lot of teenagers. It is in no way perfect but it is fun and an easy read.
