Let me start off this review by saying that if you haven’t read this classic story already, you must do so immediately (or in early December under your Christmas tree). I think this is a tale that every being must know by heart. So many retellings have been produced but the original version is oh so worth it.
What is special about this Puffin Plated edition of the classic is that, as was the case with the Pride and Prejudice Puffin Plated book I reviewed previously, there are recipes inside and different artworks in colour. But although Pride and Prejudice contained desserts, desserts and more desserts, this book balances your diet a little more so it will not make you gain 10 pounds in a week! There are hors d’oeuvres, entrées, side dishes and, yes, desserts.
I have yet to try any of them, but truthfully I am not a great cook. I do not have an instinct for making food and burn my dishes half of the time. But hey, I can make spaghetti and isn’t that already golden? So you know I will be donating my copy of this book to a relative who will both appreciate the story and recipes. This edition truly is for those people who love getting creative with their foods and are lovers of classic tales, of course!
Normally I would have said that this is a worth edition to have of A Christmas Carol if you love the story, but 34$ for such a short classic if you won’t try your hand at making any of the dishes… simply does not compute in my mind. I will leave this decision of whether the price is right for such a book to you. The Puffin Plated edition of Pride and Prejudice was the same price but was much more reasonable considering it had double the amount of pages (and recipes I believe?) than this book has and I simply love this classic more than A Christmas Carol. But that’s me.
