Through illness and health, in celebration and disappointment, families stick together. Some families are made up of many people, and some are much smaller. Sometimes family members look like each other, and sometimes they don’t! But even though every family is different, the love is all the same.
This is an inclusive picture book – it features various types of families, such as biracial, one-parent, LGBT… It is diverse and positive.
It’s also very ‘‘cutesy’’. On every page, there are five pictures of five different families for a total of ten families presented in this book. The illustrations are charming and the characters radiating love.
Of course, while it is inclusive, there are indeed many other families missing, seeing that only a small amount of nationalities are illustrated – and there is no family with a father and a child, only a mother and a child.
But I welcome the themes and message. Indeed, not all families are the same. It’s not realistic to think that, but love is universal and families that love each other have much in common, that is true.
A pleasant read with cutesy rhymes.
