Blue is having a hard time moving on. He’s in love with his best friend. He’s also dead. Luckily, Hamal can see ghosts, leaving Blue free to haunt him to his heart’s content. But something eerie is happening in town, leaving the local afterlife unsettled, and when Blue realizes Hamal’s strange ability may be putting him in danger, Blue has to find a way to protect him, even if it means… leaving him.

I have found another LGBT graphic novel for young readers! Perhaps that does not seem to you like the most majestic of news, but as someone who needs LGBT in her life and rarely sees it in the graphic novels sent to her to review, I feel like I just lucked out solidly.

This is sweet and quiet enough. It’s about Hamal, a boy who can see ghosts, and more importantly, can see Blue, who is completely in love with him. BUT, Hamal does not understand his abilities until he meets with the Reaper (who is a very nice personage by the way).

Actually, I wouldn’t have minded giving this book a higher rating, but unfortunately I didn’t find it romantic enough, especially since romance seems to be advertised by the cover and blurb. Naturally, I expected more heart-warming moments of gay love between them. I love me some gay romance.

Fortunately though, the romantic scenes that are, in fact, present, are lovely. Blue keeps pushing the name of a girl on Hamal to see how he would respond to her, and Hamal is like “Yo, it’s you that I love. Marry me right now.’’ Not in those exact words. I’m not really going to spoil this specific moment for you. Just a little tease.

Very sweet, but I needed more of Hamal & Blue and less of the necromancy.
