MINI-REVIEW:

Lara Jean is that sweet caring girl every parent wish they had. She has that thing about writing letters to every guy she loves as a goodbye. Except she never plans on mailing them. So, when someone does, it turns her world upside down.

Guess what? Lara Jean is Korean! I was happily surprised to discover that since I think it’s the first time I read a novel with a Korean main character. Chinese? Yes. Japanese? Yes. Korean? Nope.

This story was sweet, funny sometimes, adorable and charming. I especially liked the bond Lara Jean and her sisters have, and how friendship and family is important to her. I actually saw myself a lot through her, and I think it’s a really good thing when teenagers can relate to characters.
Jenny Han has the beautiful talent to make you feel like you’re in the story, next to the characters, and feel every one of their emotions.

Ok, now I really want to read Burn for Burn.

  3. Every YA book since October has had some kind of paranormal element, fantasy or sci.fi- But in October I read Saving Fransesca by Marchetta and that one was really good

  4. Oh my gosh, I need to read this book! Ah. I’ve wanted it since the DAY I saw it in Barnes and Noble forever ago (or in April, you’re pick). I want it sooo much. Please excuse my whining, I was just thinking about the book before seeing this post. But alas! I could possibly win. *crosses fingers*

    I have to agree with WordsWeHeart and go with Eleanor and Park. That book also has a half Korean character like TATBiLB. 🙂 If you haven’t already, you need to definitely check it out. It’s pretty great.

    • Oh, haha, this is such a lovely comment! I was so excited about this book too before reading it. It was pretty good overall. And the cover sooo pretty.

      I will read Eleanor & Park VERY soon. I’m just so overwhelmed by all the praises haha.

      • Oh, thanks! I try. It is so gorgeous! It actually got featured for my…”Cover Wednesday” feature tonight. Have you seen the cover or read Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson? Apparently the same person did both of the covers! Since You’ve Been Gone is another gorgeous looking book. It’s also one I’ve yet to read but really really want to. *sigh*

        You need to read it soon! I had wanted to read it since I saw it and finally purchased it last month. I finished it in roughly two days.

      • Yes, I did see the cover for Since You’ve Been Gone and it is pretty (but not as much as this cover haha) and planned on reading it though I think it’s the kind of book I would be more confortable reading in hardcopy since it has like around 500 pages I think or 400?

        I will I will haha! Aristotle and Dante is such a good book (for now hehe). I get wait to get to the actual romance…because I believe there is?

      • That’s true, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before is completely gorgeous. I love it. I practically drool when I see it in stores. Yeah, hardcopy would probably be best to read it in.

        Aristotle and Dante has been on my list of books to read. I love the title and the cover and just everything. I hope to obtain it soon. Haha, yes, there is supposed to be romance in there somewhere.

        Ah, well it’s my first “serious” blog, I’ve had others in the past, but they all fizzled out quickly. This is the only one I’ve been really focused on getting off the ground.

      • Thanks. 🙂 I think I will. Whoa, they don’t?! Not that I think I’ll ever have to use it, but still. It would nice to have. I’ve had one blog on Blogger when it was still BlogSpot and this is my third WordPress one. I figured I would stick with this one since I heard it was a bit better than blogger. Now if only they had better themes…Beggars can’t be choosers though I suppose.

I wanted a simple theme though I really haven’t seen many with mine, Zoren or Zorem forgot. I just don’t like how they make us pay 30$ to change some colors. huh.

      • I’m a bit too new to be doing giveaways. Haha. I’m not sure. I’ll most likely switch this blog to it’s own domain if it’s still going strong six months from now, then I won’t have to worry about not being able to use Rafflecopter. 🙂 It does suck there’s the $30 fee. I don’t know if I’ll ever pay that. I’m not too thrilled with the one I have now anyway.

  6. My favorite YA contemporary that I’ve read this year would have to be Paper Towns by John Green! I read it a couple years ago and I recently re-read it. I absolutely adore the characters of Margo and Quentin and it’s so much fun to read about their crazy adventures. Quentin sees the world differently after seeing it through Margo’s eyes. LOVE that. I’m not a HUGE John Green fan, but Paper Towns has to be my favorite of his for sure! 🙂

    • I haven’t read that book! One of my friends told me that it’s her least favorite John Green book and she read them all so I was like okaaay. I only read The Fault in Our Stars actually but LOVED IT. I will definitely read Paper Towns one day though first I want to read Will Grayson Will Grayson. 😀

  10. I’m glad you like this book. The Song girls are really cute. I heard there will be a sequel entitled P.S. I Love You where we’ll get a bit of John McClaren moments. I’m still on team Kavinsky though. he-he..

    So far this year, Anna and the French Kiss is my best YA read. Paris sounds overrated for a romance but Anna and Etienne St. Claire are just so adorable and I really love how Stephanie Perkins made them seem so true. It kinda makes me want to go back to being a teenager… It’s a must-read. 🙂

    • Oh I hate reading beautiful books on my tablet so I completely understand. I do a ”tirage” with all the names of the participants so maybe it’s your name I’ll pick, we’ll see. 😉

      I’ll look forward to reading the Anna book then…it is on my TBR but lately I’ve mostly been reading books published in 2014. There’s so much hype around those. 😛

      I love the sisters’ bond, except when she keeps getting in fights with her little sister lol!!

Also I had no idea that the main character is Korean. I really want to read it even more now. She sounds amazing and I’m happy that it’s a sweet read as that’s Jenny I know and love.

  13. I really want to read this book!! It sounds adorable. I LOVE Burn for Burn. On a critical stand point it’s not the best, but in terms of enjoyability and revenge, it’s a solid A 🙂 Fire with Fire, book #2 is AMAZING though! A+ 🙂 Even your mini reviews rock!

    My favorite YA Contemporary of the year is Even In Paradise by Chelsey Philpot that comes out October 14th (I think). It was FANTASTIC. Thanks for the giveaway lovely 😉

    • LOL!! I actually wrote this review like in February and edited it SO MANY TIMES. Coz it was my first ARC won so I had it to be good + I cute many parts lol. xd Can’t wait to read Burn for Burn then. xx

  15. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is the first book by Jenny Han that I’ve read. I loved it, and I cannot wait until the sequel comes out. Well… I’m patiently waiting for a cover reveal for it too. Everything about it was so cute that I just need to know what happens with Lara Jean and Peter and with Margot and Josh.

    I think I’ll have to try her Burn for Burn series next, even though I haven’t tried Vivian yet either. But hey… Vivian lives near me I think, so it will be cool to support her as well. Maybe after that, I’ll try the Summer series.

    I’ve been meaning to pick this up since it was released as it was one of my most anticipated book of 2014, however, still haven’t picked it up. I’m terrible when it comes to picking up new releases since I’m so behind with the older ones. :\

    Now as for the best YA contemporary I’v read so far this year, to be honest I haven’t read as many which is unfortunate, but my most favourite one I did read this year would have to be The Catastrophic History of You and Me by Jess Rothenberg. It was amazing in so many ways, different from any others I’ve ever read. ^_^

  21. Congrats on your blogoversary! How exciting!! 😀 My fav YA Contemp. book I read this year would probably be Please Ignore Vera Dietz. It had SO many feels and I just felt so immersed into the world. I could relate to everything. It’s the kind of book that really makes you think about the world and all the small things that can mean a lot. I just completely fell in love with this book, but it’s a book not everyone will love because it deals with some tough stuff. Again, congrats!

My favourite contemporaries of 2014… it has to be a tie between Attachments by Rainbow Rowell and Aristotle & Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alirez Saenz (that is a long title). I loved them both so much! I actually finished Aristotle & Dante today and fangirled so hard. Happy 1 month Blogoversary!!

  32. My favorite contemporary this year (so far) is either Don’t Even Think About It by Sarah Mlynowski (I went to a book signing and got ALL of her books signed. LOVE HER!) Another one of my favorites this year was Pizza, Love and Other Stuff That Made Me Famous by Kathryn Williams. It was a quick, enjoyable read.

    I have yet to read To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han. But (I got her book signed too) she seems like an awesome gal. I own the first two books in the Summer I Turned Pretty Trilogy, I just haven’t been able to read them because I cannot find the first one! I’m a hardback fanatic and can not seem to get my hands on a hardcover copy. (What? They have to match!) I also own the first book in the Burn For Burn series. I just haven’t been able to find the time to read it. There i something in me that says I have to read the Summer I Turned Pretty Trilogy first!

    • I love Sarah! I’ve read many books by her and enjoyed them all. She makes me think of this other author named Jen Calonita a little. The Summer She Turned Pretty was a fantastic trilogy for me (in the contemporary genre) but I read it a while ago so I’m not sure if I would enjoy it today as wel.. 😛 Thank you for your entry.       • OMGosh. I love Jen Calonita. She is the person who got me into Contemporary. I was pretty young and had just finished Twilight and Harry Potter (for the first time) and picked up a book a Calonita book that had been sitting on my shelves for a year. After reading the first four books in her SOMHL Series I went to Barnes and Noble and found Sarah’s Magic In Manhattan Series. They are two of my favorite authors EVER. Even now. Being eighteen didn’t change my love for their writing. 🙂 I even love Sarah’s middle grade series. 😀

        I wondered briefly if my readers ever stopped reading, when I started my blog, because all of the post were about Sarah and Jen! 🙂

        I wrote all of the above because I’m a major fangirl -not because you asked. Hehe.

I mean, we’re neighbors, right? 😉 I actually started with Magic in Manhattan when I was 11 years old and then read Whispering Pines #1 and then the SOMHL which is one of my very favorite series! It was such a delighful read. Now I really have to get Whispering Pines #2!! 🙂

      • Same here. I’m trying to find it in HB but have been unsuccessful so far. :-/ I know it was a paper back original but her website says it came out in HB in April.

        I was about thirteen when I read the Magic in Manhattan series. I love all of Sarah’s writing. She is sooo much fun. Her writing style makes me smile. 😉

  33. Thank you so much for the giveaway! I was intrigued the second I read the synopsis on Goodreads awhile back, and I’ve heard such great things about Jenny Han’s writing.
    The best YA contemporary I’ve read this year is Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. It was just so heartwarming and adorable, and Rowell definitely understands fangirl ‘culture’ as well as how to tell a lovely coming-of-age story.

        haha, yeah 🙂 All the books I read have some sort of supernatural thing going on. But, I mean, I HAVE read Pretty Little Liars and liked it… does that count?? LOL. I also love mysteries which is why I really like PLL. And one of my current favorite series is Investigating the Hottie by Juli Alexander which has some spy stuff going on… so IDK if that’s considered a contemp, lol. I obviously dont know what is classified is a contemporary, LOL.

    Goodreads says it’s YA, but I thought it was more NA, but still Colleen Hoover’s Maybe Someday was one AHMAZING read. I also read the whole Percy Jackson series this year and LOVED them. Another YA book I loved was Til Death by Kate Evangelista.

      Oh yeah, Colleen Hoover’s books are usually NA shelved but also YA. Saw that too although haven’t tried one of hers. I’ll count Maybe Someday. 😉 And I like PJ too but the Heroes of Olympus not really. :/

  47. I absolutely adored Jenny Han’s To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before! My Favorite 2014 contemporary is in fact this book. The wait for the next book is killing me! I have lent out my copy of this book to 8 people and counting and so far everyone loves it! I do want the ARC though, my copy has been loved by many. And I own the Burn for Burn series as ARCs so to have a matching set of ARCS by this author would be cool!

    But my next favorite contemporary would be a self published title called Maid for Me by Kat Lieu. The first book was free on Amazon and I devoured it in one sitting. I bought the second book and finished it too the next day.
